My eco journey

Updated: Nov 9, 2021

Hello you lovely bunch, I thought I'd just send you a little update on how my eco journey is going so far.

Recycled materials

(New puffin cards printed onto my new recycled card stock).

I am now using recycled card stock for all of my cards and using acid free envelopes. Most of my packaging is also now eco friendly.

♻️ The packaging I send your items in are reused so most of them are Amazon box's and box's from other purchases that friends and family have been saving for me.

♻️ The tissue paper I use is now made out of recycled materials

♻️ The tape used is paper tape and is able to be recycled.

♻️ Half of my sticker's are made from recycled paper (the rest are old stickers that are waiting to be replaced once finished)

🌟 I still use bubble wrap currently to protect your items. This is the only plastic I am currently using however it is all reused. I believe that rather than just throwing it away it's a lot better to be reusing it, rather than just throwing it straight into landfill. Once I have finished using it I am currently looking into more environmentally friendly way of protecting your products.

(Mussel wreaths)

♻️ A lot of my products are made from recycled and reused materials.

  1. My mussel wreaths are made from reused carrier bags, Hessian and responsibly sourced mussel shells.

  2. My Driftwood and clay creations are made from driftwood and other recycled materials as well as clay.

  3. All signage and paintings on wood are from other items such as pallets, upcycled furniture and even old floorboards that have been given another life.

I like to reuse or recycle materials wherever I can, not only does it allow me to make things more affordable for you, but it also means I am using less raw materials and therefore my business has less of an impact on our planet.

Planting trees

(This is the first of many trees planted due to your purchases).

🌲 I have now pledged that from each sale through my website over £10 I will be donating money to one tree planted to plant a tree where it is needed most.

🌲 As so much of my business rely on trees as the raw material (cards, packing, driftwood, wood slices, signage and more) I thought it was only right to try and replace the trees I use.

🌲 Trees are not only essential for my business to run but they are also essential for many other reasons.

  1. Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world's terrestrial biodiversity.

  2. A single tree can be home to hundreds of species of insect, fungi, moss, mammals, and plants. Depending on the kind of food and shelter they need, different forest animals require different types of habitat. Without trees, forest creatures would have nowhere to call home.

  3. Trees help cool the planet by sucking in and storing harmful greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide into their trunks, branches, and leaves — and releasing oxygen back into the atmosphere. In cities, trees can reduce ambient temperatures by up to 8° Celsius. With more than 50% of the world’s population living in cities — a number expected to increase to 66% by the year 2050

These are just a few reasons why trees are so important and why I've taken a step to try and do my bit.

I still have a long way to go to make my business sustainable and I'm really enjoying learning new things about this beautiful planet of ours on my journey.

If anyone has any advice then please share, I love finding new ways to make my business more eco friendly.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post and I hope you have a beautiful day ahead.

From my home to yours

Elle xx
